Is this the new MacBook Mini?
Apple netbook in all its glory
When it comes to Apple rumours, we don't just take them with a pinch of salt, we have a full bag to hand. So while these newly-unearthed details of a MacBook Mini look very believable, it just might be a case of guesswork and a few minutes on PhotoShop.
But even if it doesn't turn out to be what Apple is widely rumoured to be delivering later this year, it's a decent approximation of what everyone expects from Russian magazine 9to5.
That means a 10.4-inch WXGA display with LED backlighting, a 1.83GHz Intel Atom processor, 2GB of memory, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics, 64GB of solid state storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 1x USB and of course, a rechargeable battery. Obviously Apple will be slapping its own operating system in there, but by and large, it's not a million miles away from the average netbook.
All of which gets our alarm bells ringing very loudly. If Apple was to do a netbook, we would expect something just a little more out of the ordinary or with at least a couple of unique selling points (aside from the operating system). So look at this, enjoy it and expect much of it when Apple does release a netbook. But don't take it as the bottom line. And talking of bottom lines, the price being quoted is $899 (around £634).
