iPhone's slippery little secret

Apple's iPhone is a slippery customer say those with hands-on experience.

iPhone's going to be a slick little phone, we all know that, but maybe it's a little too slick for its own good. Bloggers who've touched up the tasty wonderphone say there's a major drawback in its silky smooth design.

According to those who've had a little more than Apple's standard 15 minute playtime, the mobile's design is simply too smooth, meaning it's prone to slipping from the hand and, potentially, tumbling to the floor. Not good when you consider its price tag.

It's a problem that might mean you'll want to buy a case at the same time, and could stop you showing off that jaw-dropping design to all and sundry.

There's some good news though. Blogger Philip Elmer-DeWitt says he met with an Apple exec and was shown how sturdy an early model of the iPhone was as the Apple bigwig casually dropped it on the floor. It kept kicking, escaping the incident (albeit an incident involving carpeted flooring) unscathed.
