Apple has said it has been ‘blown away’ by the response to the iPhone 5, unveiled in San Francisco at a special event last Wednesday. The new handset’s initial shipment has already sold out, with Apple fans now facing a 2-3 week wait if they preorder the new blower.
iPhone 5: Apple ‘blown away’ by pre-order numbers
In a short statement released to The Loop, Apple spokesperson Natalie Kerris said, “Pre-orders for iPhone 5 have been incredible. We’ve been completely blown away by the customer response.”
The lukewarm critical welcome for the iPhone 5 in some quarters appears not to have impacted sales of the rejigged device. However, with no numbers released as yet, it’s impossible to discern just how many phones Apple has shifted.
The iPhone 5 goes on general sale on 21 September, next Friday. iOS 6 will be made available for iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 owners 48 hours earlier on 19 September.
