iPhone 4 FaceTime video-chat to be free

Vid-chat won't be charged as minutes on your account

Free vid-chat is welcome news for iPhone users

With the iPhone 4 release only days away, the latest news is that Apple’s video-chat feature FaceTime won’t count as minutes on your account. In other words, it’s free.

While this is obviously cracking news for iPhone users, it’s hardly surprising considering that FaceTime actually only works on Wi-Fi networks at the minute.

Apple explained: "The voice call ends as soon as the FaceTime call connects. The FaceTime call is over Wi-Fi so does not use carrier minutes."

Whenever a 3G version of FaceTime gets released, it’ll inevitably involve charges, but for the time being, ‘free’ sounds pretty good to us.
