iPad 5 to come with fingerprint scanner?

Picture purported to be Apple's next gen tablet hints that iPhone 5s tech may be inbound

The iPad 5 may come with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner found in the iPhone 5s.

A new photo shows the bezel and home button of what is claimed to be Apple’s iPad 5.

The image was published by Chinese technology website Ctech. It claimed to have been sent the image by way of a Chinese manufacturing source.

Leaks from Chinese manufacturers have become a particular bone of contention for high tech companies that prefer to keep their products secret until they are officially unveiled.

If genuine – and there is no easy way to tell if it is or isn’t – it would suggest that the iPad 5 will come with the same sensor-based home button found in the iPhone 5s.

Rumours had previously speculated that the iPad 5 would come with fingerprint scanning technology. This is the first image that may back up that rumour.

We’re going to take this picture with a pinch of salt. However, that does not mean that we don’t believe that fingerprint scanning technology will make it into the iPad 5.

Apple is set to unveil a raft of new products, including its next generation iPad and iPad Mini, on October 22nd.
