iPad 3: Apple wants Samsung AMOLED screens

Apple exec heads to Korea to talk iPad 3

Lawsuit seemingly no barrier to deal being done.

Apple is looking to load up the iPad 3 with AMOLED screens made by Samsung. That’s according to the Korea Herald, which claims the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Tim Cook, has even been to Korea to sound out Sammy about the prospect.

Although Samsung is already one of Apple’s biggest component suppliers, the move would be a shock considering the companies are embroiled in a bitter legal dispute over whether Samsung’s Galaxy line draws too much inspiration from the iPhone and iPad.

Samsung and Apple have both kept schtum about the meeting, but this could mean the panel on the iPad 3 finally ramping up to the Retina Display resolution everyone was hoping for with the iPad 2.
