iPad 2: no OLED display

Rumours of switch to OLED crushed

Apple going with OLED alternative as iPad 2 rumours gather pace.

The iPad 2 will not come with an OLED screen. That’s according to sources in Taiwan, which have told Digitimes that Cupertino has instead opted for a backlight unit (BLU).

The news kills off any lingering speculation that Jobs and co were ready to make the switch to OLED, which has been favoured by rival phone and tablet makers in the past.

Chatter about who’s supplying what for the iPad 2 has been rife for months, as Apple gears up for the release of the sequel to its best-selling slate. The company Coretrenic is said to be making the iPad 2 panels.
