iOS 5 Speech Recognition skills spied

New screens confirm Apple's Assistant feature for iPhone

Speech-to-text and advanced recommendations based on search results planned.

Details of Apple’s speech recognition ‘Assistant’ feature slipped out into the wild just a few weeks ago. But now screenshots of the unannounced function have been spied, following the release of iOS 5 beta 5 over the weekend.

As you can see, it’s simply a case of tapping the microphone button next to the space bar in order to deliver speech-to-text messages. However, the so-called ‘Assistant’ is said to offer far more than just a novel way to input missives without typing.

Word is Apple is planning on integrating the feature across iOS, using location data and contact information to tell you about the best places to go and who to hang out with, all based on your demands.

Expect more to be revealed as devs begin to play with the latest beat of iOS. For more as we get it, keep it locked right here and to our Facebook and Twitter pages.
