Hydrogen speed record broken

Petrol power? Pah! The real records are being broken with cutting edge hydrogen-mobiles!

Zero-emission speed is the future. We've told you that before, but unless you fancy investing in a £2 million concept car you can forget it... until now.

Formula Zero's a new venture squeezing speed from hydrogen fuelled go-karts, and it's mental.

T3 trotted along to Rotterdam yesterday to see a successful attempt at a world record for hydrogen powered go-karts, and it blew our minds.

Chewing up 200metres of track in just 11.59 seconds, and topping out at 75 mph, the zero emission kart was highpoint of the city's Climate Festival, a clean, green example of the future of motoring.

As with the Honda FCX Concept we took a spin in a few months back, the only emission from Formula Zero cars is pure water. So pure in fact that the president of Formula Zero drank a glass straight from one kart's exhaust.

Universities around the world are already building their own karts to challenge the new record. Representing the UK are students from Imperial University.
