HTC searching for compelling idea for tablet PC

No iPad rival from smartphone heroes just yet

It looks like it's coming, but not just yet...

HTC will not rush to follow Apple into the tablet PC market after vowing to come up with a "compelling idea" before looking at launching an iPad rival.

Commenting on rumours that the company had an Android-packing touchscreen tablet up its sleeve, HTC's Global PR manager Eric Lin insisted that it won't rush into the market until the right idea is in place.

He said: "We are always looking at it, but, right now, the whole idea is that in order to be successful with a tablet, you need to have something compelling. And not just a compelling form factor.

"You need to find that compelling use, that compelling story, that one compelling feature. And we are not going to do anything until we have found that."

With a stream of iPad wannabes like the haphazard JouJou tablets of the world, set to flood the market in hot pursuit of the Apple tablet, it's refreshing to see a company take stock before diving into the shallow waters head first.
