Following on from the Android 2.2 update announced for the Google Nexus One earlier this week, Taiwanese mobile giants, HTC has confirmed that a range of its handsets will get the FroYo filling in the coming months.

Slightly later than what we had initially expected, the HTC Desire, Legend and Wildfire are now all confirmed to pack the latest Android offering by the beginning of Q3.

A spokesperson for HTC has said: “We are working hard with our partners to update the HTC Sense experience on FroYo and distribute it to our customers as fast as possible.

“We expect to release updates for several of our 2010 models including Desire, Legend and Wildfire beginning in Q3.”

The imminent arrival of Android 2.2 will help the Google-run handsets keep their footing as the main competitors to Apple’s smartphone offerings. The new OS update will also keep the Cupertino company in check following the recent arrival of the Apple iPhone 4 and new iOS 4 operating system.

Google has explained that Android 2.2: “provides some great new features including support for making your handset a portable hotspot and support for Adobe Flash within the browser.”
