HTC Desire: FroYo update 23 June?

HTC rep says new update coming end of next month

Move would see Desire be among first to get Android overhaul.

Android FroYo has already started to make its way the Google Nexus One. But it seems one HTC rep is so pumped about the new version of the Big G’s OS that he couldn’t help telling an irate developer that the HTC Desire would be getting some FroYo love on 23 June.

Speaking to a dev from the XDA group, who was complaining about his Desire’s lack of space for storing apps, the HTC staffer said, “You never heard this from me…. A new update is coming the 23rd of June and you will be able to put some apps on to the micro SD card.”

While FroYo doesn’t get mentioned by name, one of its core skills is letting punters stash add-ons onto expandable memory. If this rep is right, we have just under a month to wait to see Android 2.2 kicking it on the Desire.

There are some pretty major caveats though. HTC needs to port the Sense UI over to Android 2.2, which could take much longer than four weeks. Plus, there’s no official line from HTC’s top brass. Stay tuned for more news as we get it.
