HP's multi-touch Touchsmart TX2 notebook

Swivel laptop is finger flickin' good

It's not easy to get excited about a new laptop, but HP has certainly reeled us in with its Touchsmart TX2 notebook.

Ok, we're suckers for novelty, but we like the idea of a tablet-like screen to follow us around the desk, not to mention a 12-inch Windows-friendly multi-touch screen, happy to take a tap, pinch or flick for control from up to five fingers at a time. Just make sure you wash your hands first.

On the technical side, it packs a 2.1GHz AMD Turion X2 processor, ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics, 8GB RAM, 500GB hard drive, Bluetooth, an integrated webcam, 8x DVD burner and for your creative types, a digital pen. Or if you just want to give your brain a rest, HP has partnered with MTV in the US to stream in content from that particular channel, as well as Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. Whether that makes it to these shores isn't clear - we somehow doubt it will.

UK sales start in January 2009, with a price of around £799.
