HP Mini 1000 surfaces on HP website
It's definitely an ultra-portable, but the full specs are subject to internet guesswork
HP has released the first glimpses of its new Mini 100 notebook on its official website.
This seems to have been a bit of a mix up seeing as there is no proper page to back it up yet, but it revealed four important bits of information: the name, the price, the weight and the size.
The HP Mini 100 will boast a 10" screen size, which we're guessing follows much the same specification as other netbook machines. It's less than an inch thick and it'll weigh just a fraction more than 1kg, which is extremely impressive for a netbook of its size.
Prices start at $399.99 (around £260). There's no word on when it will be made fully official or available to buy.
The interesting question is which operating it will run. HP's MiniNote 2133 netbook comes with Vista installed. Furthermore, it doesn't use the Intel Atom CPU favoured by every other mini-sub notebook, but uses a VIA C-7 M instead. Will HP be making the upgrade for this new netbook? We can only speculate. Engadget reckons it will though.
Although HP's 'announcement' seems accidental, especially now that the banner has disappeared from HP's main site, it's done a good job of taking the heat off Dell's new 12" Inspiron Mini announcement.
