HMV twitter account is taken over by staff who use it to report on staff being axed
HMV suffered something of a social media blackeye when a disgruntled employee took over the retail chain's official twitter account to reveal workers at head office were being sacked.
The person in control of the account fired off tweets describing the situation such as, "We're Tweeting live from HR where we're all being fired! Exciting!!" and "There are over 60 of us being fired at once! Mass execution, of loyal employees who love the brand."
One of the tweets on HMV's account revealed that the retail chain's upper management were powerless to prevent the internal rebellion; “Just overheard our Marketing Director (he’s staying, folks) ask, “How do I shut down the Twitter?” #hmvXFactorFiring” (sic).
All of the tweets have since been deleted from HMV's official twitterfeed.
HMV entered into administration earlier this month. Management has so far declined to comment on the tweets, but it has been confirmed that 190 redundancies have been made across the company.
