Has O2 bagged a Palm Pre UK exclusive deal?

O2 to take larger grip on smartphone landscape

The evidence is mounting that O2 may be set to add the Palm Pre to its exclusivity stable alongside the iPhone 3G S when the long-awaited smartphone is given a UK launch later this year.

The latest hint comes from Vodafone Ireland, who revealed that it would not be carrying the Pre having lost out to O2 for an exclusive deal. The leak came from the same source who suggested an N97 Mini is also on the way for late 2009.

This leads us to assume (and we all know that assumption is a dangerous game) that O2 UK will follow suit, in a move which will see the network monopolise the two hottest handsets on planet earth at the moment.

Many of the early rumours came at a time when it was feared O2 may lose their grip on the iPhone, but we all know that's not happening, much to the great expense of punters upgrading to the 3G S. So, with that in mind, what will Apple make of its UK network peddling the iPhone's nearest rival?
