Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero due this autumn
Band Hero: time to rock... with the family
Activision has officially confirmed Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero as due to launch in the UK this autumn.
Guitar Hero 5 will be the next incremental addition the long-running Guitar Hero franchise, and promises to deliver a range of new rock and roll tunes, as well as yet more classic rock to mash your plastic instruments along to.
The vaunted track list is still unknown, sadly. Activision is probably still sorting its way through the licensing agreements, but following its merger last year with Vivendi, which counts Universal Music Group as a subsidiary, we can expect a decent range of new tunes in there.
Also bear in mind that if you’re a fan of classic Guitar Hero rock, then there’s Guitar Hero Greatest Hits dropping this summer, granting the full band treatment to select hits from GH1, GH2 and GH3.
Guitar Hero 5 will support the full band set up introduced to the GH series in Guitar Hero: World Tour. No word yet whether the instruments (mic, drums and guitar) will be getting an upgrade. We’d be highly surprised if they don’t.
Activision reveals that the game will offer a new drop-in, drop-out system for songs, so now you don’t have to halt the game when the drummer has to get some fresh tinnies form the fridge.
If you find that moshing to Airbourne’s Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast doesn’t have quite the family vibe you were going for, then you’ll be eyeing Band Hero. You wimp. It’ll have a kiddie friendly age rating, designed to appeal to a “broad family audience”. So we’ll hazard a guess that Scouting for Girls will feature prominently in the track list.
Band Hero supports the full band kit and should be compatible with the same instruments as the rest of the series.
Watch this space; we’ll let you know as soon as we hear more about soundtracks and exact release dates. We don’t know which console platforms the pair will be released on, but we’ll put our money on ‘all of them’.
