GTA 5 to require mandatory install

Rockstar's upcoming hit crime game will need 8GB of disc space on both 360 and PS3

GTA 5 will require a mandatory 8GB install, Rockstar Games has said.

The developer revealed the requirement via a question and answer session on its website. It confirmed that the install is mandatory on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

“Grand Theft Auto V is the largest and most ambitious game we have yet created, and takes full advantage of every ounce of processing power available in the current generation of consoles,” the company wrote on its website.

“In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems.”

According to Rockstar, the PS3 version will install from the Blu-ray disk the first time it is placed in the console.

The Xbox 360 version however will require two discs; one to install the game and the other one to play it. Rockstar has said that gamers will not be required to swap discs once the content is installed.

The news does however mean that owners of the Xbox 360 4GB model will not be able to play the game. They will have to upgrade their console or purchase an external hard drive or USB flash drive.

Rockstar’s last major open world game LA Noire required three discs. The publisher has confirmed that GTA 5 will be much larger than its police drama.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is due for release on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17th.
