Google Nexus 3 smartphone confirmed at I/O

Andy Rubin says Google Nexus 3 is on its way

Nexus 3 to be first Ice Cream Sandwich handset?

Google’s Android head Andy Rubin has confirmed that the Californian search and tech giant is to continue its series of Nexus smartphones with the Google Nexus 3 to hit markets in the near future.

Confirming the Nexus brand will continue to dazzle the smartphone market and look to further mark itself as a leader of cutting edge mobile tech, Rubin tantalisingly teased: "We'll make an announcement at some point in the future."

"The Nexus has been the thing that we used to set the bar, and there's always going to be new ones coming out in the market," added the Google front man.

Whilst it is expected the Google Nexus 3 will follow its predecessors, the Nexus One and Nexus S, and launch in the opening month of 2012, the third Nexus handset could be the first device to run the recently announced Android Ice Cream Sandwich which will launch before the year’s end.
