Spotify gets some big competition

Details are slowly emerging about a Google Music service, with a launch event said to be planned for October 28th 2009.

Thar event is titled 'Discover Music!' and will take place in Hollywood, fronted by music services iLike, Lala 'and others', which is believed to include Google and MySpace. So we're talking something big. In fact, very big.

According to TechCrunch, the new service will be integrated into Google search, with the option to stream music from the streaming companies sat alongside details of your chosen artist. Want the track to keep? Well, Google will offer a 'buy now' option too, news that isn't going to go down well at either Apple or Amazon we suspect. Spotify might be a little concerned too.

Although none of the companies involved are making any noises publicly, screenshots of the service are already doing the rounds in an attempt to woo the big four music labels, which indicates the actual launch of the service could be just around the corner. We'll let you know more as soon as it breaks - which is likely to be in a matter of days.
