Google looking to buy Twitter

Google buying your daily thoughts

Twitter could soon be part of the Google empire, with the result possibly being an all-new search engine, if reports are to be believed.

According to TechCrunch (which cites two people 'close' to the negotiations), Google is into advanced negotiations for the fast-rising social network for an undisclosed sum. Twitter turned down an offer from Facebook for half a billion dollars (which included Facebook stock), so it's anyone's guess how much we're talking here. Let's just say 'a lot'.

Obviously Google isn't just buying the Twitter name and concept, it's buying every word you Tweet. You see, Twitter has become more than a social network, it's also one of the best real time search engines out there, especially when ot comes to people searching for news, the next big thing or simply brands looking for feedback. It's a different beast to Google search - and Google wants it. Especially if it can monetise it.

And if you're looking for an investment idea, Twitter founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone might be worth tapping up. This is the second time they have sold something to Google for a hefty price - the first being the Blogger platform.
