Google Labs updates Hot Trends
Google's army of programmers ramp up analysis of search results - in a vague attempt to copy Twitter's Trending list?
Omnipresent search giant Google has refreshed its "Google Trends" results popularity gadget, allowing users to see which internet search terms are kicking off in real-time.
To keep things a bit more manageable, Google has reduced the current Top 100 Trends to a more comprehensible 40, so if your next Google search happens to match an entry in the company's new Hot Trends chart, you'll see a little graph at the bottom of the results page illustrating how hard/fast the search term has been trending throughout the day.
If, for example, you're American and have been searching for information on Carly Patterson, you will now be able to see that she's currently "on fire" according to Google - and has a very erect graph beside her name on her Hot Trends results page as proof.
The new Hot Trends features are currently live for Google users in the US and Japan, so keep an eye out for the thing popping up in our UK internet windows soon.
