Android tops 100,000 available mobile applications
Google Android OS tops 100,000 apps in Market Place
Google has announced that its mobile operating system, Google Android, has hit a milestone point in its development as available apps for the OS top 100,000 for the first time.
Android has proven to be a massive hit with both handset developers and consumers alike with the mobile OS helping to produce some of the biggest competitors to the smartphone crown as well as powering the latest breed of tablets to hit the market.
Whilst Apple and the iTunes App Store pioneered the application market, and still dominates it in terms of available programmes, Google’s Android Market is rapidly closing the gap on the iPhone manufacturers with multiple devices benefiting from the increase in downloadable content.
@androiddev, the official Twitter feed for developers of the Android platform celebrated the milestone figure with the tweet: "One hundred thousand apps in Android Market.”
