God Of War: Ascension developer Santa Monica Studios says that it will change the controversial 'Bros Before Hos' Trophy in its game
There are some Trophies and Achievements that video game fans should actually feel rather bad about earning. There's the Achievements for betting on cock fighting in the superb open city adventure Sleeping Dogs or the Daedric Walker Trophy for being a servant of pure evil in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that leap to mind.
Most recently, players could earn the rather tacky and horribly misogynist 'Bros Before Hos' Trophy in God Of War: Ascension. It pops up on screen shortly after the player uses Kratos to finish off a female boss by stamping his size ten sandle-shod foot through her face. The existence of this Trophy has caused more than a little consternation amongst gamers and critics alike, with many decrying it as... well, horrid and completely unnecessary.
It appears this criticism has been heard as Santa Monica Studios, the developer behind Ascension have announced their intention to remove it from the game.
"We have created and wil soon push out a patch for God Of War Ascension that alters the title of one of the game Trophies," the studio said in a statement. "The text was offensive to some members of our community and impacted their enjoyment of the game."
Apparently, after the patch, the Trophy will be renamed 'Bros Before Foes'. And all is right with the world again, it seems...
