Gigabyte M912 joins the budget PC set
Tasty tablet range heads to market with a £300 price tag
Remember the heady days of 2007? When we all kicked and punched our way to the front of the queue for the original Eee PC? Well, these days it's the manufacturers doing the kicking and punching, desperate to get our attention for their latest budget laptops and notebooks. And the Gigabyte M912 is currently near the front of that particular queue.
And it's up there for one big reason - this is a budget tablet. Previously seen in one of those 'is it real?' press shots, the Gigabyte M912 has now got a price and an all-but-confirmed specification for not one model, but three separate variants. The M912V offers Windows Vista, 1GB of RAM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for $656, the WinXP-based M912X variant will set you back $620 while the M912M (with a lower 1,024 x 600 resolution display and no Bluetooth) will ship for $556.
No news on the rest of the current spec, but we can second-guess an Atom processor, with other features previously announced including a hard drive up to 250GB, USB/SD card connectivity, 1.3-megapixel webcam and of course, that 8.9-inch LCD panel with touch screen and 180-degree rotation.
You want a launch date? Well, so do we. But so far, details have only appeared on Taiwanese sites, so we will all just have to sit and wait. Although I suspect ".
