Garmin and ASUS unveil the nuvifone G60

Android-based iPhone killer on the way?

Never mind two heads being better than one, what about two tech giants? Well, if the newly-launched nuvifone G60 is anything to go by, iT could mean a  few iPhone-beating handsets before the year is out from the newly-joined Garmin and ASUS.

Think you've seen the nuvifone G60 before? Well, you just might have seen it on these very pages. We featured it last year when it was just a Garmin project, a GPS-heavy phone with 3.5-inch touchscreen, 3 megapixel camera, super-fast HSDPA connectivity and Wi-Fi. It's changed little, aside from the name above the door. But even in its current state, the G60 is certainly a contender for your next upgrade - especially if you need a GPS upgrade too.

And the nuvifone G60 is likely to be just the opening shot. Both Garmin and ASUS are signed up to Google Open Handset Alliance and although the G60 is unlikely to feature the Android operating system, follow ups are likely to. In fact, the next generation phones could even make an appearance at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress show (later this month). If they do, you can be assured, we'll be all over them like a rash.
