G-Drive slim launched with USB 3.0 and MacBook Pro 2012 compatibility

External drives that are Retina MacBook-ready

With USB 3.0 on board these external drives will move your files 10 times faster than USB 2.0 and six times faster than Apple's own Firewire 800

G-Technology have launched their first USB 3.0 compatible products with the iPhone-slim G-Drive slim offering up 500GB of storage that can be used with the new 2012 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

With a minimalist brushed-metal design it's clear that they were designed to work in conjuncture with Apple's products and along with the sleek looks are some serious hardware.

USB 3.0 is the latest standard to be introduced offerig huge speed increases on the previous standard and clearly aimed at rivalling Thunderbolt, the new standard from Intel and Apple.

The G-Drive slim comes in at just under 10mm making it just slightly thicker than an iPhone 4S, it's Time Capsule-ready and utilises an ultra-quiet 7,200 RPM drive with fan-less cooling.

Available in July through the Apple Store the G-Drive slim will be £71 while the rest of G-Technology's USB 3.0 range will be coming later in August.
