Fujitsu FLEPia eBook reader hits the market
Who needs boring black and white?
As we wait in both hope and expectation for the launch of the Amazon Kindle 2 in the UK, another eBook reader could be about to make it ancient history - the Fujitsu FLEPia.
Unfortunately this is another example we're not going to see in the UK (at least, not just yet), but it's certain to be sending shockwaves through the boardroom of Amazon right now for one big reason. This super-slim eBook reader offers a colour screen.
Specifically it delivers an 8-inch 1024x768 XGA touchscreen that can display 260K colours, theoretically able to bring to life your favourite graphic novels and comics. Novels? Well, they're in black and white anyway, so it's unlikely to liven up War and Peace with a new pallete. Then again, this is a Japanese launch, so we could well be wrong on that front.
Other features include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, an SD slot capable of holding 4GB of data, file compatibility that covers everything from Words docs to images and best of all, a strong battery life - up to 40 hours of continuous use says Fujitsu. The FLEPia is available to pre-order in Japan right now for the equivalent of £720. Yes, you did read that right. Until Fujitsu gets that bit right, I suspect we'll all be more than happy with monochrome.
