Flipboard for Android leaks out, can be downloaded now

APK posted to developer's forum ahead of official release this summer

Flipboard for Android has leaked out for all Android users ahead of an official release. It would thought to be Galaxy S3 exclusive, initially. Not anymore

The brief peak at Flipboard for Android at the Samsung Galaxy S3 launch last week was a nice little bonus to round-off one of the most enchanting launches of this or any other tech year.

That was soon tempered by news that we'd have to wait until later 'this summer' for the launch of the digital magazine. Even then, there was a chance it would only be for selected handsets, perhaps even the S3 alone.

Well, the wait is already over, if you don't mind indulging in some, shall we say, unofficial downloading. The app's APK (the package which contains the app, kind of like a .zip file) has been ripped and posted on to the infamous xda-developers forum and can be accessed and installed by all. Right now.

While this definitely steals Flipboard's thunder and could take away a pretty neat S3 exclusive, simply downloading the 2.3MB APK and allowing "untrusted sources" in the Android Applications settings will enable you to easily install the app.

The first reports suggest this is pretty much a straight-up port from iPhone to Android, which is by no means a bad thing. The iPad version of the infinitely customisable, socially infused mag was T3's App of the Year in 2011.
