Facebook to help small UK businesses with free ads
One of the lesser known facts about Facebook is the amount that it brings in through advertising, for the UK alone it generates £2.2b worth of income
Facebook has announced that it will be offering nearly £4.2 million worth of advertising completely free in an effort to help small businesses get up off the ground and get started.
Offered in conjunction with a series of roadshows by the British Chamber of Commerce the venture will offer thousands of small businesses around the UK and Europe the opportunity to have their company shown on Facebook.
Facebook's COO Sheryl Sandberg points out that Facebook has long since been more than just a social networking site with the website having a serious effect on jobs as well as people.
"Today's report shows that Facebook is about a lot more than sharing pictures or keeping up with friends. Increasingly, social media means growth and jobs."
With the potential to give small businesses access to a huge audience it's a great opportunity to get in on the action, especially after it was revealed that Facebook generates £2.2 billion for the UK.
