Facebook says that it was the target of a 'sophisticated attack' by hackers last month but that no user data was compromised
Facebook has revealed it was the victim of a 'sophisticated attack' by an unidentified group of hackers. The good news is that the social network says it's found no evidence showing that any user data has been compromised.
"Last month, Facebook security discovered that our systems had been targeted in a sophisticated attack," Facebook revealed in an official blog post. "The attack occurred when a handful of employees visited a mobile developer website that was compromised."
Facebook said that malware was then downloaded onto the laptops of its emloyees.
"As soon as we discovered the presence of the malware, we remediated all infected machines, informed law enforcement and began a siginificant investigation that continues to this day," the company said in its blog post.
Facebook went on to say that it was not the only site to be attacked in this way. "It is clear that others were attacked an infiltrated recently as well," the company said on its blog.
Facebook boasts around one billion users worldwide and it's just the latest high profile site to be attacked in this way.
