Facebook music and movie ticker set to be revealed

Zuckerberg set to announce entertainment company tie-ups

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is expected to take to the stage at this Thursday’s f8 event in San Francisco to detail the new Facebook music and movie services

Facebook is set to reveal a new music and movies “ticker”, letting users see what their friends are watching and listening to in real time. The new offering will be outed at the social network’s f8 conference, taking place on 22nd September in San Francisco.

Word is that the ticker will be separate from the current news feed, although some key information about users’ watching and listening habits will be shared there. Tie-ups with Spotify and movie streaming services are expected to be unveiled by Mark Zuckerberg, as he looks to increase Facebook’s influence on the entertainment industry.

Newspapers are also said to be getting in on the act, with Facebook users able to read content within the social network itself, rather than clicking on a link to take them away from the site.

With Facebook claiming that its ‘Like’ button for web articles has increased traffic to media websites by four times, you can bet every company going will want to know just what Zuckerberg has planned next.

We’ll be bringing you news from f8 as it happens, so stay tuned to the T3 Facebook and Twitter feeds for breaking news as it happens.
