Facebook Deals launches in the UK with location offers

Location-based Facebook service hits UK users

Starbucks and O2 launch partners for Facebook Places

Facebook has today announced the UK arrival of Facebook Deals, a mobile location-based service that allows users to make use of exclusive business offers in their vicinity through Facebook Places.

Launched in the US late last year, Facebook Deals will be made available to iPhone and Android touting Facebook users effective immediately in the UK with four other European nations, Spain, Italy, France and Germany joining Canada as the recent upstarts.

Deals can be accessed through Facebook mobile apps when signing into Facebook Places. Local businesses offering the Facebook exclusive deals will be represented by a Post-It Note styled ‘Golden Ticket’ with launch deals ranging from a free cup of coffee to a free Xbox 360 or PS3 via a free day out at the nation’s favourite theme park.

With four types of ‘Deals’ available, Individual Deals, Loyalty Deals, Friend Deals and Charity Deals, Facebook’s VP of EMEA Joanna Shields announced of the launching service: “Facebook Deals is innovating how brands communicate with people.”

A number of national and global brands have announced their partnerships with the UK arrival of Facebook Deals with the likes of Starbucks, Yo! Sushi, Mazda, O2, Argos, Debenhams, Beneton and Alton Towers all presenting Facebook mobile users, who sign in to Places using the businesses’ location, a series of exclusive offers.

Expanding on the benefits of Facebook Deals Shields added: “Facebook Deals represents the power of word of mouth marketing and personal recommendation.

"By checking in and taking the deal, this is shown on your news feed so your friends can also see what deals are taking place.

"Over 200 million people use Facebook on their mobile phone. We are now offering businesses the opportunity to connect with people in an entirely new way."
