Facebook announces deeper Spotify integration

Spotify collaboration is part of wider push into music and movies

Swedish streaming service Spotify now works within Facebook, as the likes of Hulu and Netflix get involved with similar video offering and Guardian signs up as media partner

Facebook’s new Timeline isn’t the only new feature to be revealed at this year’s f8 conference. Perhaps more exciting is the social network’s new ‘ticker’ feature which allows you to listen to music, watch movies and read entire articles without leaving the site.

For UK users, it’s the tie-up with Spotify that’s the most exciting aspect of the ‘ticker’ function. It means that you can now play tracks on the Facebook site, as well as recommend new tunes to friends and listen to songs on artists pages.

The idea is to make sharing music (and films) more social and easier to do. Currently, discovering new music on Spotify is a pain, so hopefully this wide-ranging tie-up will change that for the better.

The ‘ticker’ will be separate from your news feed, although key recommendations will appear there too. Tell us what you think of the changes in the comments section.
