Codemasters is to launch a new cartoon style Formula 1 title dubbed F1 Race Stars ahead of the September 21st F1 2012 release date

Ahead of this autumn’s F1 2012 release date, developer Codemasters has revealed it is to expand its Formula 1 themed gaming collection with the Mario Kart styled F1 Race Stars.

Taking a step away from the ultra-realistic flagship F1 gaming franchise, Codemasters has confirmed it is to use its experience in the high-octane, fast paced sport to launch a new cartoon-esque arcade racer that is sure to appeal to kids and grownups alike.

F1 Race Stars Features

Featuring a recognisable cast of caricatured F1 stars including the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso, the upcoming title will see race tracks become an adventure playground and the F1 cars take on a cartoon finish.

Building on the real-world championship tracks, courses in F1 Race Stars will be brought to life with a selection of challenging obstacles including elevated hairpins, jumps, corkscrews and loop-the-loops. A selection of power-ups will be available for drivers to collect and deploy in true Mario Kart fashion.

“We’re really excited to bring the whole cast of Formula One into a fun new world of racing," said F1 Race Stars senior producer Chris Gray.

"We’ve really let our Art and Design teams off the leash to bring F1 stars’ personalities alive in a new way and create a game where racing fans of all ages can jump into all-action solo, split-screen and online multiplayer races.”

He added: “It’s the game we’ve wanted to create for a long time and, building on our strong relationship with Formula One Management Limited, we’re now able to bring Codemasters’ long-standing expertise in track design and AI to create a Formula One racing experience quite unlike any other.”

F1 Race Stars Release Date

Whilst the full F1 2012 gaming release has been set for September 21st, Codemasters has confirmed that its light-hearted Formula 1 themed title will land in November as the company looks to capitalise on the Christmas shopping rush.

The game is set to be made available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC gamers. There is currently no word on plans to bring the F1 release to Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console.
