EE expands 4G coverage to 12 more towns

Further 18 expected to be served by the end of June, bringing the total to 80 towns and cities.

 

EE has added another 12 towns to its 4G coverage, bringing the number of cities and towns covered to 62.

The towns are Aylesbury, Berkhamsted, Billericay, Blackpool, Brentwood, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Lytham St Annes, Marlow, Pontefract, Thame and Windsor.

The operator, which owns the T-Mobile and Orange brands in the UK, said that more than half of the UK's population is now covered by its 4G service.

It reiterated its commitment to launch 4G services in at least another 18 towns and cities by the end of June. That will bring the total number of at least 80.

EE has also it is aiming to cover at least 70 per cent of the population of the UK by the end of this year.

"Consumers and businesses in the UK use mobile internet more than any other market and rely on it for long commutes," said Olaf Swantee, chief executive of EE. "We're committed to rolling out 4G to 98 per cent of the population by the end of 2014."

According to the operator's own figures, 318,000 customers had signed up to its 4G service by the end of March.

In addition, a further 1,600 medium and large companies have also rolled out the service to its staff.

It has a target of 1 million customers by the end of this year.
