US launch plagued with major problems due to Origin servers and always on DRM

EA has promised that the Origin server issues that disrupted the launch of Simcity 5 won't be repeated when the game launches in the UK later this week.

US gamers – including some journalists for major business publications – slammed EA for the server issues impacting the single player gamer. Download issues, problems with games unlocking, and queues of up to 30 minutes to start playing were all reported.

EA admitted it had made a mistake with the US launch via Origin's Twitter account, saying that high demand had left to "delays impacting a small percentage of users", promising that UK gamers wouldn't suffer the same issues.

"We're making changes to prevent further issues and are confident that Origin will be stable for international launches later this week.

The game has been at the centre of controversy since the presence of always on DRM was announced. This anger erupted yesterday with many gamers saying that a single player game should not be suffering these sorts of issues.
