E3 2008: T3 exclusively reveals Microsoft will NOT be adding a Blu-ray drive to the Xbox 360

Despite conflicting reports online, T3 can reveal that the Xbox 360 won't be getting a Blu-ray upgrade any time soon

Fresh out of a tête-à-tête with David Gosen, Vice President of strategic marketing for Europe, T3 was told that Xbox is 'all about digital' and isn't looking towards Blu-ray as a long-term media format.

Gosen, who has also seen stints at Nintendo and I-play Mobile Entertainment made the revelation in a one-to-one interview given to T3 at E3, the industry's yearly games exhibition in Los Angeles.

The surprise comment adheres to Microsoft's announcement to distribute Netflix rental films, through Xbox Live in the US. Gosen also hinted at a heavy marketing and branding investment set for the UK, stating that 'to win in Europe' was fundamental to Microsoft's agenda for Xbox.

Gosen was also keen to pint out that Microsoft's 12 million Xbox Live members were making 3.5 million communications everyday. 'Live is central to everything Microsoft. The Xbox isn't all about hardcore gaming.'

That's very interesting. Anything else not happening today? Nintendo not releasing a virtual sex add-on for the Wii? Microsoft not giving away free Zunes to everyone in Peru? If anything else is not happening I'll be sure to check back here every hour just in case.
