Dragonfly robot filmed
Video exclusive: Witness the world's first winged robot in action. It's flappin' brilliant.
Robots are taking to the skies... but luckily we've nabbed the controls. See, the robo gurus over at WowWee, famed for the Robosapien series, have given us exclusive access to their new FlyTech Dragonfly 'bot. Sod eagles, this cyber-bug is the new king of the skies.
It doesn't use propellers or glide around with fixed-position wings like a fraudulent flying insect wannabee. No, this Dragonfly debuts as the world's first robot to use brute flapping-power to remain airborne. And despite what you think, it does actually work, and amazingly well. Just hit play on our exclusive vid of it in action for proof...
The handsome bug recharges by perching on the RC remote controller, and will soar and dive through the skies (within a range of about 150 feet) for about 15 minutes.
It's slated to perch on UK shelves in early 2007. We'll be catching up with WowWee out at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January, so we'll be sure to hit you with a full update on the whens and how-muches. Plus, we'll be quizzing them on all their robotic activity including the Robosapien V3, and a few other cyber toys we know they've got in the pipeline, like a giant spider. Stay tuned...
