Blizzard Entertainment have confirmed the Diablo 3 release date as May 15th with the third installment of the saga once again touching down on PC.
The Diablo series is 15 years old and to give some perspective on how long a wait this has been it was over 11 years since the last title.
“After many years of hard work by our development team and months of beta testing by hundreds of thousands of dedicated players around the world, we’re now in the homestretch,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.
“We look forward to putting the final polish on Diablo III over the next two months and delivering the ultimate action-RPG experience to gamers worldwide.”
Diablo 3 Plot
Players will battle as one of five characters –barbarian, wizard, monk, demon hunter or witch doctor – through endless legions of evil as they quest to rid Sanctuary of corrupting forces.
Along the way they will encounter vast locations and foes, grow in ability and collect money and artifacts.
Diablo 3 Features
Once again, Blizzard will utilise its esteemed online platform, Battle.net, to provide cooperative play for adventurers around the world. However, an entirely novel feature of the sequel is the Battle.net auction house, a marketplace where players can trade their hard-earned loot in exchange for in-game gold.
The real novelty here, though, is that players will have the option to receive real-world currency from auction house sales, which they can then spend on digital Battle.net products or cash out through a third-party payment service such as PayPal.
Blizzard note that more details concerning the auction house will be announced in the coming weeks.
Diablo 3 Release Date and Price
Blizzard did not confirm a UK price for the upcoming game, but both the DVD and digital versions will ship at $59.99 in the US.
Additionally, World of Warcraft players with an annual pass subscription will be able to download a digital copy of Diablo III for free when the game releases, even if they choose not to renew their pass after the 12-month commitment.
