Diablo 3 shifts 3.5m copies in 24 hours to break PC sales records
Blizzard is celebrating a record breaking launch as Diablo 3 shifts 3.5 million copies in just 24 hours to become the fast selling PC game
Following the title’s official release last week and despite a number of issues, new figures have revealed Blizzard’s Diablo 3 has become the fastest selling PC game of all time.
Shifting a staggering 3.5 million units within just 24 hours of its global launch, Diablo 3 has eclipsed previous PC sales records with a further 1.2 million copies of the game included provided to World of Warcraft Annual Pass subscribers.
Despite its record setting sales push, Diablo 3 failed to top the UK All Format Gaming Chart for the week ending May 19th with Rockstar’s Max Payne 3 taking top honours.
“We’re definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo III and jump in the moment it went live,” Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment said following the record sales announcement.
He added: “We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support.”
