Dell ditches own-brand MP3 players
Apple's Christmas comes one month early
Dell's plan to take on the iPod and iTunes has been shelved - for now, at least.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the computer giant planned to launch a mini player alongside its Zing media jukebox software in the run-up to Christmas. The software will still arrive, but the player has been postponed 'indefinitely'. Why the player has been ditched isn't clear, but those same 'sources' claim problems with launching both at the same time. Recently-revamped ranges of iPods and Zunes probably don't help either, or indeed, a weak economy.
The company has so far declined to comment on the player, but Dell is promising 'sexy' new products for the latter part of this year and the early part of next. 'Sexy' and 'Dell' - two words we thought would never appear in the same sentence.
