Dell Adamo gets official launch
Aimed at the beautiful people
After hype and pre-publicity on a par with Michael Jackson's comeback, Dell has finally unleashed its Adamo laptop to the world, confidently claiming the title of 'the world's thinnest laptop', even though it does weigh slightly more than a MacBook Air. But we're still going on record to say it's Dell's most stylish yet, and certainly marks a new and improved Dell in terms of design and performance.
It's the first in a line of high-end Adamo-branded products, offering up a chassis created from a single piece of aluminum, a 'scalloped' backlit keyboard, an edge-to-edge glass display, all the connectivity you can eat, a solid state drive and a set of matching designer accessories thrown in for free. Well, we say 'free', but with prices starting at £1,649 for a basic set-up, you'll have to spend big to bag those freebies.
In terms of specifics, the Adamo laptop packs an 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo U9300 processor, integrated Intel X4500 graphics, 2GB of RAM, a 13.4-inch 16:9 HD display, 128GB of solid state storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, 2x USB, 1x USB/eSATA combo port, optional mobile broadband and Windows Vista Home Premium. So not exactly the best value for money in terms of computing power, but let's be honest, you're buying this to flash about in the office or on the train, not to improve your work rate. And if you want to impress, this is the machine for the job.
On top of those free bits and pieces, Dell will also offer a range of matching accessories, including exclusive TUMI bags, a choice of 250GB/500GB external drives and an 8GB USB drive, along with a choice of an external DVD or Blu-ray drive and access to the Adamo Premium Service, which includes 24/7 access to trained technicians and next business day onsite service. No half measures here. Look out for the 'artful' packaging too, with the laptop 'floating' in a clear box with a minimum of clutter. Nice.
Dell is rightly going to making a lot of noise about the Adamo in the coming weeks, so look out for a big advertising campaign ahead of the UK shelf date, which is scheduled for March 26th 2009. Can't wait? Well, you can pre-order one right now, in a colour choice of onyx or pearl.
