Cut-price 4GB Apple iPhone 3G rumoured
Pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap
Lack of storage is often cited as a downside of the iPhone 3G, so we're guessing there's unlikely to be a stampede when an even smaller model hits the shelves. But if it's cheap enough? Well, just maybe.
The new 4GB iPhone 3G is rumoured to be hitting the Walmart chain in the US for $99, which would have worked out at £50 in the good old days of a strong currency, but is more like £75 right now. That also means signing up to a two-year contract, but still a tempting offer if you can't quite stretch to the $199 price tag for an 8GB in the US. If it happens, it's likely to hit at the end of December, the date that Walmart starts to sell the larger models.
So what about the UK? Well, if Apple is knocking out a smaller model, there's no reason why we shouldn't see it here. Just don't expect it on the shelves of the Walmart-owned Asda, nestling between the frozen foods and cooked meats. But if it does hit that particular supermarket, remember where you read it first.
