iPhone and Android to do battle on the app front
With the Oscars currently dominating much of the tinsletown talk, The Carphone Warehouse has announced the UK’s first major awards and celebration of all things Apps in the form of the Carphone Warehouse Appys.
The Appys, which will kick of in February with Carphone Warehouse employees tasked with submitting their favourite smartphone fillers, will then see a panel of industry experts whittle the ten categories down to a shortlist of five apps per category. Eventual winners will then be voted on by the British public before a spring final ceremony.
“Demand for Apps has exploded over recent months, and has really transformed the way we use technology,” said Matt Stringer, Managing Director of The Carphone Warehouse. “Apps have become a part of our day-to-day lives and we are very excited to be able to celebrate not only the best Apps, but also the extremely talented and creative people who have brought them to us. We are all very much looking forward to the inaugural Carphone Warehouse Appys and putting on a great awards show.”
Speaking on the upcoming first Appys, awards judge and T3 Editor Luke Peters announced: “Apps, both on smartphones and now tablets, are one of tech's biggest success stories. Capturing the imagination of both users and developers alike, we have seen the category explode and I'm thrilled that T3 is part of this recognised industry event that will aim to reward the most innovative and best apps around.”
