Carole Bartz bags Yahoo CEO role
Did someone mention a Microsoft merger?
Well, word on the street claimed Weblogs Inc and Mahalo search engine founder Jason Calacanis was up for the job, but it's now been revealed that the new CEO of Yahoo is Carole Bartz, replacing the outgoing Jerry Yang.
It's certainly a more 'safe' appointment than Calacanis, with Carole Bartz offering solid Silicon Valley experience from the likes of Sun Microsystems and Autodesk, which should see the company through the tough financial times.
What isn't clear is Bartz' take on the much talked-about Microsoft merger. Previous CEO Yang knocked back a substantial $47.5 billion bid from the software giant in the latter part of 2007, claiming it 'undervalued' Yahoo. Since those heady days, Yahoo itself has lost value (like many companies) and could be ripe for another smaller bid from Microsoft.
Will it happen? Will it be knocked back? Will someone else bid? Tune in to the next exciting episode of the web's favourite soap opera - Yahoo.
