New Canon compacts announced

Camera guru Canon has today announced a range of new products lead by a high-performance duo of compact snappers in the Canon IXUS 1000 HS and Canon PowerShot S95.

Celebrating 10-years of its IXUS series, Canon has announced the new 10-megapixel, 10x optical zoom touting Canon IXUS 1000, the world’s smallest camera to host such hefty zoom capabilities at just 22.3mm thick. Available to buy next month, the pocket camera that packs full HD, 24fps, 1080p video recording capabilities will set wannabe owners back £349. A video of the new IXUS 1000 HS and a brief history of the IXUS series can be seen below.

Joining the IXUS 1000 in peaking from the shadows today was the Canon PowerShot S95, another 10-megapixel snapper building on the hugely popular S90 device that quickly became the pro’s compact of choice. Offer a larger sensor than its IXUS counterpart the S95 has added a new matt finish, RAW image compatibility and 720p HD video shooting to its unique lens control ring and 28mm Canon f/2.0 lens.

Available later this month the new PowerShot S95 is set to land with a £399 price tag and the most advanced image stabilisation ever seen on a compact snapper.

Following in the wake of the low-light specialist that was the Canon IXUS 300 HS, both the IXUS 1000 and PowerShot S95 boast the company’s high-sensitivity HS system that allows for high-end photographs to be captured in low and challenging light conditions. Adding to this each compact brings a few party tricks of their own to the mix with the IXUS 1000 hosting super slow motion video recording and the PowerShot S95 offing High Dynamic Range shoot and stitch capabilities.

Also announced today in Canon’s latest bag of tricks was the PowerShot SS130, a 12.1-megapixel, 12x optical zoom hosting snapper with HD video recording capabilities and a rather tasty £199 price tag.
