The killer Canon G11 is one of the best top-end compacts going. And now the top notch camera is getting a successor, the Powershot G12, according to a comprehensive leak, since pulled from Cnet Asia.

The Powershot G12 is set to rock the same 5x optical zoom and 10 megapixel sensor as the G11, as well as a tilting 2.8-inch panel. But what sets it apart is 720p HD video recording.

The shooter will also pack a High Dynamic Range mode and a Hybrid IS image stabilisation system which cuts down even further on camera shake. However, the G12 still remains unofficial, this following a slew of announcements by Canon yesterday. A rumoured event on 26 August, however, should see it get the nod.
