Camera takes a look around

He's behind you! Well, actually, with the Nikon 360, it doesn't really matter...

Wide angle lens? Hah, try full, glorious 360° high-definition surround sound, but with pictures! It's the future-tech of cameras, where you can catch your surroundings in full technicolour glory.

Instead of a rotating tripod and taking multiple shots, the cameras of the future might well have a simple rotating lens. With the advances in accelerometers (think Wii) and gravity meters (as found in the rather swanky Logitech MX Air), the snapper can keep track of up and down, and will make sure that your panoramic horizons turn out perfectly straight. Yum.

The biggest question to ask yourself, though, is how the hell do you present something like this? You could plaster your walls with it, of course, but you'd soon run out of room. Luckily, just like YouTube revolutionised video, and Flickr has changed the photography world forever, there's a similar service out there - CleVR - which makes it easy to share your panoramas with the world.

Now all we need is for someone to build the camera. Nikon, are you listening? Get cracking!
