The recordbreaking launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops has seen Activision’s first-person shooter dominate the All Formats All Prices UK Video Game Chart taking top spot from last week’s No.1, Football Manager 2011.
Shifting 1.4 million copies in its opening day in the UK alone to take a tidy £58 million, the latest addition of the Call of Duty franchise easily claimed the chart top spot ahead of EA’s FIFA 11 in second with Just Dance 2, Kinect Sports and Football Manager 2011 rounding out the top five respectively.
Following the UK launch of Microsoft’s controller-free motion gaming peripheral Kinect last week, a number of the gesticulation-lead titles landed in the chart’s top 40. The hip-shaking Dance Central was the first Kinect title landing 13th in the chart followed by Motion Sports at 15, Fighters Uncaged, 23, Kinectimals, 26, Kinect Joy Ride, 30, and Sonic Free Riders in 38th.
Having broken records in the days following its launch, Call of Duty: Black Ops is now the 1/6 odds on favourite with bookmaker Paddy Power to top the charts come Christmas day.
